Rode to Bird Billabong – about 35km round trip. Kath did a
7km walk along Mary River from the campsite. There were plenty of birds around,
mainly waterbirds – egrets, ducks, geese, Jabiru and ibis. There were a couple of
cyclists heading out to Bird Billabong on touring bikes laden down with panniers.
They had started in Broome and looked pretty weary. On way to Jabiru we stopped
at Mamukala wetlands. Lots of waterbirds and woodland birds. Approx. 4km walk
around the billabong. Overnight camp at Jabiru Kakadu Lodge – very quiet and spacious
sites. We saw our fellow travellers again here and they had visited the auto
electrician and were told they had turned on a switch which they shouldn’t have.
They also damaged the front of their van on a branch – so had a pretty horrible
start to their holiday. Garmin Connect link Bird Billabong http://connect.garmin.com/activity/195858031 Mamukala walk http://connect.garmin.com/activity/195858023
