| Maui campervan - Mercedes Sprinter |
| our home for a week |
I rode out to Britz/Maui Depot at Winnellie. Address is 17 Bombing
Rd, so named because bombs were transported on this road to the WWII airfields from
the dumps dug out of soft sandstone only a short distance away. After 2 hours
wait I was able to take delivery of the Mercedes Sprinter. A quick trip to
deliver the bike box to Crowne Plaza Darwin (where we would be staying on our
last night in NT), and a bite to eat at Istanbul Café and we were on our way. Headed
out towards Howard Springs. This is an aquifer spring and there are a few
little walks through mangroves etc. Disappointing, as it was a bit tacky. On to
Humpty Doo to pick up some beers and head towards Adelaide River. We stopped
about 100km from Darwin at the “Window on the Wetlands” display. Reached Mary
River late and booked a powered site for the night. Let off fireworks which I have
purchased in Darwin. It is Territory Day (July 1) and fireworks can be sold on
this day and fire restrictions are lifted between 6pm and 11pm. The family next to us in the park also hired a
Maui van in Darwin only to find the electrics were not working – no 240V power.
They rang the hire company and were told “take it to Jabiru and see an auto
electrician”. We met with them many times on our trip and again on the flight
to Sydney. Garmin Connect link http://connect.garmin.com/activity/195858036
